1. Introduction and Purpose
These Community Guidelines ("Guidelines") set out the standards of conduct and content that all Users of the Nixyum platform must observe. They apply to all Content posted, shared, or transmitted on the Platform under any Persona, and to all conduct by Users in connection with their use of the Platform.
The Guidelines exist to protect Users from harm, to maintain a safe and lawful environment for expression, and to ensure that the Platform's two Personas, Nex and Nyx, are not abused. Freedom of expression is a value the Platform actively supports. These Guidelines define the limits of that freedom where it conflicts with the safety, rights, and dignity of others, or with applicable Georgian law.
These Guidelines are incorporated by reference into the Terms of Service and form part of the binding agreement between Nixyum and each User. Capitalised terms used in these Guidelines have the meanings assigned in the Master Definitions. Violation of these Guidelines constitutes a breach of the Terms of Service and may result in Enforcement Action as described in Section 13 and in the Content Moderation & Takedown Policy.
2. Scope of Application
These Guidelines apply to:
- All Content created, posted, uploaded, shared, transmitted, or otherwise made available on or through the Platform, whether as a Nex or a Nyx, including through Act As.
- All conduct by Users on the Platform, including interactions with other Users, use of Platform features, and use of the reporting system.
- Both public and private Content, including private messages. Private communication does not exempt Content from these Guidelines.
- All languages. These Guidelines apply equally to Content in all languages. Language will not be treated as a barrier to enforcement.
- Both Personas, Nex and Nyx. Responsibility for a violation attaches to the Account, whichever Persona committed it; Enforcement Actions may apply to the whole Account or, where proportionate, to one Persona only.
The Beta status of the Platform does not limit Nixyum's right or obligation to enforce these Guidelines.
3. Core Principles
All Users are expected to act in accordance with the following principles, which underpin the specific rules in Sections 4–11:
- Respect: Treat all other Users with basic dignity. Disagreement and debate are welcome; personal attacks, harassment, and dehumanisation are not.
- Honesty: Do not deceive other Users, Nixyum, or the public through impersonation, fraud, disinformation, or manipulation of Platform features.
- Responsibility: You are responsible for all Content you post and all conduct you engage in on the Platform, regardless of the Persona used.
- Lawfulness: All Content and conduct must comply with applicable Georgian law and the laws of the jurisdiction in which the User is located.
- Proportionality: Enforcement of these Guidelines is proportionate to the nature and severity of the violation. Not every breach warrants the same response.
4. Prohibited Conduct
The following categories of conduct and Content are prohibited on the Platform. This list is non-exhaustive. Nixyum reserves the right to take Enforcement Action in respect of conduct not specifically listed below where that conduct is harmful, unlawful, or inconsistent with the spirit of these Guidelines.
Category A — Violence, Threats, and Safety
A.1 Credible Threats of Violence. Content that constitutes a credible threat of violence against any identified or identifiable person or group is prohibited. This includes direct threats ("I will harm X"), conditional threats ("if X happens I will hurt you"), and threats implying future harm. Credible threats will result in immediate content removal and, where warranted under Georgian law, referral to law enforcement.
A.2 Incitement to Violence. Content that calls for, encourages, or facilitates violence against any person or group — including by promoting, glorifying, or celebrating acts of violence — is prohibited, regardless of whether the call is directed at a specific individual or a class of persons.
A.3 Terrorism and Violent Extremism. Content that promotes, glorifies, recruits for, or provides material support to terrorist organisations, violent extremist groups, or acts of mass violence is prohibited. Discussion of terrorism, extremism, and political violence in a journalistic, academic, condemnatory, or counter-extremism context is permitted.
A.4 Self-Harm Content. Content that promotes, glorifies, or provides detailed instruction on methods of suicide or self-harm is prohibited. Content in which a User expresses personal distress or crisis will not be automatically removed; Nixyum will provide crisis resource information to the User and, where required by Georgian law, may notify relevant authorities. If you are experiencing a mental health crisis, please contact a crisis helpline or emergency services.
A.5 Dangerous Challenges and Activity. Content that encourages Users to engage in activities that pose a significant risk of physical harm to themselves or others — including dangerous challenges, stunts, or dares — is prohibited.
Category B — Harassment and Personal Attacks
B.1 Targeted Harassment. Conduct constituting targeted harassment of any User or individual is prohibited. Targeted harassment includes: sustained abusive messaging or posting directed at a specific person; coordinating others to target a specific person with abuse; repeatedly contacting a User after they have indicated they do not wish to be contacted; and posting content specifically designed to humiliate, degrade, or distress a specific individual.
B.2 Personal Attacks. Content that attacks a person's character, appearance, identity, or personal circumstances in an abusive or degrading manner — as opposed to criticism of their ideas, conduct, or public statements — is prohibited. The distinction between robust criticism and prohibited personal attack is assessed in context by Moderators.
B.3 Doxxing. Publishing or disclosing the private personal information of another individual without their consent — including home address, workplace, phone number, financial information, or other identifying details not previously made public by the individual — is prohibited, regardless of the Persona under which the disclosure is made.
B.4 Outing. Disclosing or threatening to disclose another person's sexual orientation, gender identity, health status, immigration status, or other private personal characteristic without their consent is prohibited.
B.5 Revealing Who Is Behind a Nyx. Attempting to identify, reveal, or publish who is behind another User's Nyx without that User's consent is prohibited. This rule applies regardless of the means used, including cross-referencing public information, technical analysis, or social engineering.
B.6 Abuse of Reporting System. Submitting false, malicious, or coordinated Reports against a User with the intention of harassing them or causing Enforcement Action to be taken against them without legitimate basis is prohibited. This constitutes platform abuse and will itself result in Enforcement Action.
B.7 Block Evasion. Where a User has blocked one of your Personas, contacting that User from your other Persona, or trying to get around the block in any other way, is prohibited.
Category C — Hate Speech and Discrimination
C.1 Hate Speech. Content that dehumanises, attacks, or calls for discrimination against individuals or groups on the basis of a protected characteristic — including race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, caste, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, or socioeconomic status — is prohibited. This includes: content comparing groups to animals or subhuman entities; content calling for the exclusion or persecution of protected groups; and the use of slurs or epithets directed at protected groups in a derogatory manner.
C.2 Context and Public Interest Exceptions. Discussion of hate speech in an educational, journalistic, research, or counter-speech context is not prohibited, provided the Content does not itself endorse or amplify the hateful message. Quoting hateful language for the purpose of condemning it must be clearly framed as condemnatory. Moderators assess intent and framing in context.
C.3 Hate Symbols. The use of symbols, imagery, or iconography associated with organisations designated as terrorist or extremist organisations, or with historical movements that perpetrated systematic discrimination, violence, or genocide, is prohibited except in clearly educational or counter-extremism contexts.
Category D — Sexual Content and Child Safety
D.1 Sexually Explicit Content. All sexually explicit Content — including pornography, graphic depictions of sexual acts, and sexual nudity — is prohibited on the Platform. Suggestive Content that falls short of explicit material may be removed at Moderator discretion where it is determined to be inappropriate for the Platform.
D.2 Child Sexual Abuse Material (CSAM) — Zero Tolerance. Content that constitutes CSAM, including any depiction of a Minor in a sexual context, is absolutely prohibited. Where CSAM is identified, it is blocked and never published, preserved as sealed evidence to which access is strictly restricted, for the period set out in the Data Retention Schedule, and reported to NCMEC and, where required, to the competent authorities. Any User responsible for posting CSAM will face immediate permanent Account termination. This prohibition is non-negotiable and is not subject to contextual exception. Once a person has confirmed that Content is CSAM, the decision cannot be appealed.
D.3 Grooming and Child Exploitation. Content or conduct facilitating the grooming, solicitation, exploitation, or abuse of Minors is prohibited. This includes: sexualised communication with a person the User knows or should know is a Minor; soliciting sexual material from a Minor; and sharing information or strategies for gaining access to Minors for the purpose of exploitation.
D.4 Content Depicting Minors. Content that depicts identifiable Minors in any manner that could compromise their privacy, safety, or dignity is prohibited without verifiable parental or guardian consent. This includes photographs, videos, and other media in which a Minor is identifiable. Content depicting Minors in a public-interest or newsworthy context is assessed on a case-by-case basis, with the Minor's safety and privacy given primary weight.
Category E — Fraud, Deception, and Misinformation
E.1 Impersonation. Impersonating another person or organisation — whether a private individual, public figure, business, government body, or Nixyum itself — in a manner that is likely to deceive other Users is prohibited. Satire and parody are permitted where the Account or Content is clearly and prominently labelled as such and is not reasonably likely to be mistaken for the genuine subject.
E.2 Fraud and Scams. Content or conduct designed to defraud other Users or third parties is prohibited. This includes: phishing attempts; fraudulent fundraising; Ponzi, pyramid, or multi-level marketing schemes misrepresented as legitimate investment; impersonation for financial gain; and any other conduct intended to obtain money, property, or personal data from another person by deception.
E.3 Harmful Misinformation. Deliberate dissemination of false factual claims that are reasonably likely to cause harm — including false claims about public health, medical treatment, electoral processes, or emergency situations — is prohibited. Opinion, satire, and speculation are not prohibited provided they are not presented as established fact. Nixyum does not act as a general fact-checker but will address verifiably false content that poses a material risk of real-world harm.
E.4 Spam. Unsolicited bulk messaging, repetitive posting of identical or near-identical Content, automated posting without authorisation, and any other conduct designed to artificially amplify content, flood feeds, or abuse Platform features for commercial gain is prohibited.
E.5 Malware and Malicious Links. Posting, sharing, or transmitting links to or files containing malware, spyware, ransomware, browser-hijacking scripts, cryptomining scripts, phishing pages, or any other malicious code is prohibited. Users who post malicious links will face immediate Enforcement Action.
Category F — Privacy Violations
F.1 Sharing Private Personal Information. Posting Content that includes private personal information about another individual — including identification documents, financial account details, private contact information, medical records, or location data — without that individual's consent is prohibited.
F.2 Non-Consensual Intimate Imagery (NCII), Including Synthetic NCII. Sharing, posting, or threatening to share intimate images or videos of another person without their consent — commonly referred to as "revenge porn" — is prohibited. This prohibition extends equally to Synthetic NCII (also known as "deepfake NCII"): intimate imagery generated, manipulated, or altered by computational means (including artificial intelligence, machine-learning models, image-synthesis tools, or face-swap techniques) to depict an identifiable real person in an intimate context without that person's consent. Synthetic NCII is treated identically to authentic NCII for the purposes of these Guidelines.
NCII and Synthetic NCII are removed within 48 hours of a valid request, as set out in the Content Moderation & Takedown Policy §9A. Requests can be made through the public form at https://support.nixyum.com/takedown or by email to [email protected]. Where the conduct is a criminal offence under Georgian law, the matter will be referred to Georgian law enforcement.
F.3 Recording and Publishing Private Communications. Publishing screenshots, transcripts, or recordings of private communications (including direct messages) without the consent of all parties to the communication is prohibited, except where disclosure is in the public interest and the communication relates to conduct that itself violates these Guidelines or applicable law.
Category G — Platform Integrity and Abuse
G.1 Engagement Manipulation. Artificially inflating engagement metrics — including through the purchase of likes, followers, comments, or views; use of click farms; coordinated inauthentic behaviour by groups of Users to make content appear more popular or credible than it is; and use of bots or automated scripts to perform actions on the Platform — is prohibited.
G.2 Unauthorised Automation and Bots. Using automated tools, scripts, bots, or crawlers to access, interact with, or extract data from the Platform without Nixyum's prior written authorisation is prohibited. Legitimate automation use cases may be considered upon application to [email protected].
G.3 Security Exploitation. Attempting to gain unauthorised access to any Account, system, or data associated with the Platform; exploiting security vulnerabilities; conducting denial-of-service attacks; reverse-engineering the Platform; or facilitating any of the above is prohibited. Users who identify security vulnerabilities are requested to report them responsibly to [email protected].
G.4 Multiple Accounts and Ban Evasion. Each natural person may hold only one Account. Creating additional Accounts to circumvent an Enforcement Action — including a suspension, ban, or feature restriction — is prohibited and constitutes an independent violation. Any Account identified as a ban-evasion Account will be terminated immediately, and the original sanction may be extended. Hashed identifiers of permanently banned Accounts are retained on the basis of Legitimate Interest (platform safety) for the purpose of preventing ban evasion, in accordance with the Data Retention Schedule.
G.5 Sockpuppeting. Using your Nex and your Nyx, including through Act As, to create a false impression of independent agreement, support, or consensus — such as replying to your own content as your other Persona to fabricate endorsement — is prohibited. Your two Personas must not be used to deceive other Users about the nature of the discourse.
G.6 Evasion of Content Rules. Attempting to circumvent content prohibitions through obfuscation — including substituting letters with symbols, numbers, or characters from other alphabets to spell prohibited terms; using images of prohibited text; vague-posting content that is clearly targeted harassment without naming the target; or any other technique intended to convey prohibited content while evading automated or human detection — is prohibited. Where Nixyum determines that the intent of the Content was to violate these Guidelines, it will be treated as a violation regardless of the technique used.
5. Restricted Content — Sensitive but Permitted
The following categories of Content are permitted on the Platform but are subject to the conditions set out below. Nixyum reserves the right to apply content warnings, restrict visibility, or require additional context for Content in these categories.
5.1 Graphic Violence in Public Interest Contexts
Documentary, journalistic, or historical content depicting real-world violence may be permitted where it serves a legitimate public interest purpose and is accompanied by a content warning. Gratuitous, shock-value, or entertainment violence without public interest justification will be removed.
5.2 Sensitive Medical and Mental Health Content
Content discussing medical conditions, mental health struggles, addiction, or personal experiences with self-harm or suicidal ideation may be permitted in appropriate support, educational, or awareness contexts. Such Content must not include specific methodological detail that could be used as instruction. Content that glorifies, promotes, or provides instruction on self-harm or suicide is prohibited under Category A.4.
5.3 Artistic Nudity
Artistic depictions of nudity — including fine art, sculpture, classical imagery, and historically significant cultural works — may be permitted where the content is clearly artistic in nature and is not sexual. Nixyum applies editorial judgment to distinguish between artistic nudity and sexual content. Where doubt exists, the safer categorisation will be applied.
5.4 Robust Political and Social Commentary
Strong political commentary, satire of public figures, and criticism of governments, institutions, and ideologies is permitted. Such content must not constitute harassment of private individuals, incitement to violence, or disinformation as defined in Category E. Public figures have reduced privacy expectations in relation to their exercise of public functions. Users remain responsible for ensuring that their Content complies with applicable Georgian law. Nixyum does not provide legal advice to Users and does not endorse any User Content; the permission of robust commentary under these Guidelines does not constitute a representation that particular Content is lawful in any given jurisdiction.
5.5 Discussion of Hate Speech, Extremism, and Illegal Content
Discussion, analysis, education, or counter-speech concerning prohibited categories of content — including hate speech, extremism, CSAM, and criminal conduct — is permitted in appropriate contexts. Such discussion must not constitute endorsement, facilitation, or amplification of the prohibited content itself.
6. Persona-Specific Rules
6.1 Equal Enforcement Across Personas
Responsibility for a violation attaches to the Account, whichever Persona committed it, and a violation committed as a Nyx has the same consequences as one committed as a Nex. Enforcement Actions may apply to the whole Account or, where proportionate, to one Persona only. Users may not use anonymity as a shield against accountability.
6.2 Prohibited Use of Nyx
Nyx exists so that Users can take part in public discourse without showing who they are. It is not provided to enable conduct that these Guidelines prohibit. The following conduct is specifically prohibited as a Nyx:
- Harassment, abuse, or targeted attacks against identifiable individuals.
- Impersonation of a specific identifiable person.
- Posting any Content that would violate these Guidelines if posted as a Nex. Nyx affords no additional latitude under these Guidelines.
Where a User repeatedly abuses their Nyx for conduct prohibited by these Guidelines, Nixyum may suspend the Nyx while leaving the Nex active, in addition to any other Enforcement Action.
6.3 Nex Standards
Your Nex is the identity by which other Users know you on the Platform. You are not required to use your legal name as your Nex's display name. You may not, however, use your Nex to:
- Impersonate a specific real person in a deceptive or misleading manner.
- Claim to be a Nixyum employee, moderator, or official representative without authorisation.
- Operate as a fake person, bot, or coordinated inauthentic Account.
Nixyum reserves the right to require identity verification for your Nex in specific circumstances, including where impersonation is suspected or where the User engages in commercial activities on the Platform. Refusal to cooperate with a verification request may result in feature restriction.
6.4 Cross-Persona Conduct
You must not use your Nex and your Nyx, including through Act As, to interact with each other in a deceptive way. Cross-persona sockpuppeting — including artificially endorsing your own content, manufacturing false consensus, or coordinating attacks on another User from both Personas — is prohibited under Category G.5.
7. Usernames, Display Names, and Profiles
The rules in these Guidelines apply to all profile elements, including usernames, display names, profile photographs, avatars, biographies, and any other profile field. Specifically:
- Usernames and display names must not contain prohibited terms, slurs, or hate symbols.
- Profile photographs and avatars must not depict Prohibited Content.
- Profile biographies must not include doxxing information, harassment, or prohibited content.
- Profile elements must not impersonate another identifiable person.
- A Nyx's display name and handle must not reveal who you are, for example by using your own name.
Nixyum may require a User to change a profile element that violates these Guidelines, and may suspend the Account for a set period, as set out in Section 4 of the Content Moderation & Takedown Policy.
8. Intellectual Property
Users must not post Content that infringes the intellectual property rights of any third party, including copyrighted works, trademarks, trade secrets, or other protected material. This includes:
- Reproducing substantial portions of copyrighted text, music, video, or other creative works without authorisation or applicable fair use / fair dealing exception.
- Posting works in which a third party holds copyright without a valid licence.
- Using third-party trademarks in a manner likely to cause confusion as to the origin or endorsement of Content.
Intellectual property infringement notices may be submitted to [email protected]. Nixyum will process valid notices in accordance with Sections 8 and 9 of the Content Moderation & Takedown Policy.
9. Commercial Use and Self-Promotion
The basic Nixyum Platform is a social network, not a commercial advertising platform. The following rules apply to commercial and promotional activity by Users:
- Organic personal promotion — sharing your own creative work, project, or professional activity in relevant contexts — is permitted.
- Unsolicited commercial solicitation — posting promotional messages in unrelated threads or mass-messaging other Users with commercial offers — is prohibited as spam under Category E.4.
- Operating an Account primarily as a commercial advertising vehicle outside Nixyum's official advertising system is prohibited.
- Pyramid schemes, multi-level marketing recruitment, and fraudulent investment solicitation are prohibited under Category E.2.
Once advertising is offered on the Platform, Advertisers wishing to promote products or services must use Nixyum's official advertising system and comply with the Advertising Policy.
10. Animal Welfare
Content depicting real animal cruelty, torture, or graphic suffering for entertainment, shock value, or glorification is prohibited. Documentary, veterinary, conservation, or investigative journalism content that depicts animal suffering in a factual and non-gratuitous context may be permitted with an appropriate content warning.
11. Interaction with Moderators and Staff
Users are expected to interact with Nixyum's Moderation team and staff with basic respect. The following conduct is prohibited:
- Targeted harassment of individual Moderators or Nixyum employees in connection with the exercise of their moderation or operational functions.
- Publicly posting personal information of Moderators or Nixyum employees.
- Attempting to impersonate a Moderator or Nixyum employee to influence other Users or to interfere with the moderation process.
Disagreement with a moderation decision must be addressed through the appeal process described in Section 12.2, not through public abuse or harassment.
12. Reporting and Appeals
12.1 How to Report
Users who identify Content or conduct that they believe violates these Guidelines must submit a Report through:
- The in-app "Report" function on posts, comments, stories, highlights, profiles and private messages.
- Email to [email protected] for matters the in-app function does not cover, including account-level concerns.
- For NCII (including Synthetic NCII): the dedicated public takedown form at https://support.nixyum.com/takedown or email to [email protected], processed in accordance with the Content Moderation & Takedown Policy §9A.
Reports are reviewed by Nixyum's moderation team, the most serious first, as the Content Moderation & Takedown Policy describes. Nixyum will notify the reporting User that the Report has been received. The identity of the reporter is kept confidential and will not be disclosed to the reported User except where required by applicable law.
12.2 Appeals
Any User who is subject to an Enforcement Action arising from these Guidelines has the right to appeal that action within thirty (30) days of the notification of the action. You can appeal in the app (from the notice, or Settings → Help & Support) or by email to [email protected]; if you cannot use the app, email always works. The Content Moderation & Takedown Policy explains how appeals are decided and what the outcomes can be.
13. Enforcement
Violations of these Guidelines are subject to Enforcement Action as described in the Content Moderation & Takedown Policy. The range of Enforcement Actions available includes:
- Issuance of a formal warning.
- Content removal, or holding Content from other Users pending review.
- Application of a content warning or sensitive content label.
- Temporary feature restriction (e.g., posting or messaging suspension).
- Suspension of a Nyx.
- Temporary Account suspension.
- Permanent Account termination.
- Referral to Georgian law enforcement or child protection authorities.
- In the case of CSAM: reporting to NCMEC and, where required, to the competent authorities.
Enforcement Actions are applied proportionately to the nature and severity of the violation, the User's Account history, and the potential for harm. Certain violations — including CSAM, credible threats of violence, terrorism content, and malware distribution — attract immediate severe Enforcement Action without prior warning. The Content Moderation & Takedown Policy describes how Enforcement Actions are decided.
14. Changes to These Guidelines
Nixyum may update these Community Guidelines from time to time to reflect changes in law, Platform functionality, or operational practice. Material changes will be communicated to Users at least thirty (30) days before the change takes effect, via the Platform or by email, except where a shorter period is required by law or is necessary for reasons of security or regulatory compliance. A correction or clarification that does not change Users' rights is not a material change and takes effect when it is published. The current version of these Guidelines is always published on the Platform. Continued use of the Platform after the effective date of any update constitutes acceptance of the revised Guidelines.
